This is the text version of https://www.supertrades.com.au/calculators/home-sauna-cost-calculator.

Working out your home sauna cost is easier when you compare the type of sauna, whether it’s indoors or outdoors, and any site extras needed for installation. In Australia, a typical home sauna price starts from about $4,500 AUD for a 2 person infrared sauna kit and can reach $18,000 AUD for a custom built sauna, before any outdoor site loading or optional add-ons are applied.

## Home Sauna price breakdown

| --- | --- | --- |
| Infrared sauna kit (2 person) | $4,500 | $4,500 |
| Infrared sauna kit (4 person) | $6,500 | $6,500 |
| Outdoor barrel / cabin kit | $9,500 | $9,500 |
| Custom built sauna | $18,000 | $18,000 |

## What affects Home Sauna cost

- **Sauna type:** The biggest driver of home sauna cost is the style you choose. A 2 person infrared sauna kit is $4,500 AUD, a 4 person infrared sauna kit is $6,500 AUD, an outdoor barrel or cabin kit is $9,500 AUD, and a custom built sauna is $18,000 AUD.
- **Indoor vs outdoor location:** Outdoor or exposed installations cost more because the calculator applies a 1.12 multiplier to the base rate. That means an outdoor sauna cost will usually be higher than the same unit installed indoors.
- **Electrical requirements:** Some jobs need a dedicated electrical circuit to safely power the sauna. This is an optional flat add-on of $850 AUD per job and is not multiplied by the number of saunas.
- **Base or footing preparation:** If the sauna needs a stable foundation, you may need a concrete pad or footing. This adds a flat $650 AUD per job, which can affect total sauna installation cost, especially for outdoor setups.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the typical home sauna cost in Australia?

For a typical job of 1 sauna, the base supply and install cost starts at $4,500 AUD for a 2 person infrared sauna kit. Other common options are $6,500 AUD for a 4 person infrared sauna kit, $9,500 AUD for an outdoor barrel or cabin kit, and $18,000 AUD for a custom built sauna. Final pricing can increase for outdoor or exposed sites and optional extras.

### How much is an infrared sauna cost for home use?

The infrared sauna cost depends on size. A 2 person infrared sauna kit is $4,500 AUD, while a larger 4 person infrared sauna kit is $6,500 AUD, both at the indoor rate. These are often the most accessible options for homeowners wanting a simple plug-in indoor sauna.

### What affects outdoor sauna cost the most?

Outdoor sauna cost is mainly affected by the higher base product cost and the outdoor site multiplier. The outdoor barrel or cabin kit starts from $9,500 AUD, and outdoor or exposed installations are calculated at 1.12 times the indoor rate. You may also need a concrete pad or footing for an additional $650 AUD.

### How much is sauna installation cost on top of the sauna itself?

The calculator pricing already reflects supply and install, so the listed rates include installation. Optional extras that can increase sauna installation cost are a dedicated electrical circuit at $850 AUD per job and a concrete pad or footing at $650 AUD per job. These add-ons are charged once per job rather than per sauna.

### What is the home sauna price for a custom build?

A custom built sauna is priced at $18,000 AUD for 1 sauna at the indoor rate. This option includes a site-built cedar sauna with heater, ventilation and lining. If the site is outdoor or exposed, the calculator applies a 1.12 multiplier to that base cost.

### How does home steam room cost compare with sauna pricing?

This calculator is set up for saunas rather than steam rooms, so the live pricing shown covers sauna options only. For comparison, the current home sauna price range in the calculator runs from $4,500 AUD for a 2 person infrared sauna kit up to $18,000 AUD for a custom built sauna. If you are comparing steam and sauna options, installation requirements like power and base preparation can still affect the final project cost.
